SIM
Description
SiM began in Shonan, Kanagawa, Japan in 2004. Prior to the band’s formation, frontman MAH played in a high school band heavily inspired by Nirvana, Muse, Sublime, and punk. The reggae/punk vibe persisted as SiM took shape, while their heavier side evolved into more aggressive metal. SHOW-HATE joined the band on guitar in 2006, and SiM’s debut album, Silence iz Mine, followed two years later. In 2009, the current lineup was completed by SiN on bass and GODRi on drums. The mini-album LIVING IN PAiN was released in 2010, followed by their sophomore album, Seeds of Hope, in 2011. The band signed with Universal Music Japan for Pandora, which peaked at No. 5 in Japan in 2013.
SiM (Silence iz Mine) conquered their homeland with a vibrant blend of nü-metal and postmodern hard rock with a hardcore attitude. The “Reggae PUNX from Japan” – as they call themselves – established themselves on the American rock scene with powerful singles, including the No. 1 hit “The Rumbling”. With the release of PLAYDEAD (2023) on UNFD, the alt-metal quartet is expanding worldwide. The band’s music evokes the melodic bombast and rhythmic power of early 2000s pioneers such as Korn, Linkin Park and Deftones, with controlled explosions of metalcore and the rebellious spirit of classic reggae, two-tone ska and punk that electrified generations of subcultures. They’ve been headlining arenas and festivals across Japan, including their own annual two-day festival, Dead Pop. They’ve also toured with One Ok Rock and Coldrain, headlined blockbuster shows in Los Angeles and London, played the UK’s Download Festival, and will be touring the US with Dance Gavin Dance in 2023.
“In general, Japanese rock bands tend to be successful in Europe, but rarely in the US, where metal is totally outside the mainstream,” notes SiM vocalist MAH. “So we were surprised by the massive success of The Rumbling and UNDER THE TREE in the US. We didn’t imagine or hope for that!”
